CAQ Toolkit #4 The Magic of Glaze
Saturday 14 August 1-5pm @ BIA

Book now for the Ceramic Arts Queensland Toolkit #4 Ian Currie Memorial Lecture 2021
We are pleased to present this year’s lecture by Dennis Forshaw, well-respected ceramicist from the Sunshine Coast. Dennis will provide details of his practice using crystalline glazes, including a demonstration on how he applies these glazes. He will bring along recent works including some test pieces for discussion. Dennis has generously offered to share his firing schedules and glaze application process and will demonstrate a few glazing techniques specific to crystalline glazes. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A and be followed by a light supper included in the fee.

Dennis Forshaw has been working with clay for over three decades, he uses clay and glazes as a vehicle for his ideas, much like a painter uses a canvas. The surfaces of his crystalline glazes are often reminiscent of constellations, delicate coral formations and oceans. The metamorphic or transformative qualities in his work, are about growth, change, and enlightenment, this reinforces the power of life and emphasizes how precious it is.

Dennis was the Head of Ceramics Department, Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE from 1998-2004, he completed a teaching qualification during 1999. He has exhibited widely and has had work published in Ceramics Technical and the Journal of Australian Ceramics.
