Carol Forster

For the past 40 years I have been excited, even a little obsessed with the challenge of working with clay. I enjoy handling it, playing with it and trying out new possibilities. This love of experimentation has led me to create a versatile range of ceramic pieces, from multiple-fired metallic lustres to fine porcelain origami bowls. For me the process of making is equally as satisfying as the finished work.

My day often begins with a walk by the sea. Whilst beachcombing, I find seashells of varying shapes, sizes and textures which have been washed up onto the beach.

I have chosen to make this piece in Porcelain as the term “porcelain” derives from the old Italian name for the cowrie shell (porcellana) due to its similar appearance. The white sandy beach is also reflected in this medium.
