Thank you for joining Ceramic Arts Queensland!
CAQ is a not-for-profit volunteer-run organisation which relies on the generosity and participation of its members. Here is a short guide to help you access the full benefits of being a member of CAQ.
FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER
Each fortnight CAQ will send members a newsletter that features the latest news on opportunities, workshops, exhibitions, and more from around Queensland, northern NSW, and beyond.
If you have an event or exhibition which you would like included, please let us know, email info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
We hope to see you at one of our events soon. The CAQ Board is constantly working to develop an interesting and relevant calendar of workshops, clay chats, exhibitions, and other events. Some of our events are for members only and are free, such as our clay chat series and the Annual Members’ Exhibition. CAQ offers workshops at competitive rates with members also receiving a discount. Our workshops are first advertised in our fortnightly Flash newsletter, giving our members priority access. To book an event:
- Please log in to your account.
- Go to the events page (select from the menu at the top of the page) and select the preferred workshop. Use the booking feature at the bottom of the page to secure a place. It is essential that you use the discount code ‘memberfee’ at the checkout page to secure a place at the discounted members’ rate.
If you are experiencing problems with this, it is likely due to one of the following:
- Did you log in first?
- Is your membership up to date? To check your membership status firstly log in and then select ‘My Subscriptions’ from the menu on the left-hand side. This will list your status – either ‘Active’ or ‘On Hold’ – and the date when your next payment is due. If the status is ‘On Hold’ that likely means your membership renewal is overdue and you will not be able to use the member discount code until this is resolved.
- Did you spell the coupon code ‘memberfee’ correctly?
If you have completed this checklist and are still experiencing problems with booking, please send us an email info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
When you sign up for membership online the account will default to ‘auto-renew’. This means that the membership will automatically and conveniently renew in one year’s time using the same card details you used when you joined.
If you do not want this to happen, you may opt out of this at any time. Simply log in to your account, select ‘My Subscriptions’ from the menu on the left-hand side, and deselect the ‘auto-renew’ button. You must complete this action yourself – we cannot alter this for you.
If you deselect ‘auto-renew’ you will have to renew your membership manually by paying via direct deposit (this is covered below).
Auto-Renew
If your have opted for auto-renew your membership will automatically renew 12 months from when you joined. As mentioned above, you may opt out of ‘auto-renew’ at any stage. To update your card details, please log in and then select ‘Payment methods’ from the menu on the left-hand side.
Direct Deposit
You may wish to pay your membership renewal via direct deposit. When your membership is due to be renewed you will receive one email only with an invoice. Our account details are:
Bank details: Ceramic Arts Qld BSB 034 008 Account Number 229630
Once you have deposited the monies it would be greatly appreciated if you could let us know that you have actioned this, please email info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
BULLETIN & BULLETIN ARCHIVE
CAQ publishes the Bulletin magazine quarterly with all members receiving an electronic copy via email. A subscription for the printed version may be purchased separately.
Members are encouraged to contribute to the Bulletin as it is an invaluable resource for sharing knowledge with your peers and fostering excellence in the ceramic arts. Please send articles and images (print quality 300dpi please) to: info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
Current members can access the Bulletin archive by logging in, then selecting ‘Downloads’ from the menu on the left-hand side. All issues from February 2017 are available.
ANNUAL MEMBERS’ EXHIBITION
Each year CAQ holds an exhibition of members’ work at the Brisbane Institute of Art (Windsor). This event is free for our members to participate in. The event is advertised widely to the public and arts community. We host an opening night event and encourage you to bring your family and friends to celebrate with us.
All work is for sale and CAQ charges a modest commission.
SILICEOUS AWARD FOR CERAMIC EXCELLENCE
The Siliceous Award is our premier biennial event. Entry is open to all Australian residents and permanent residents with the main acquisitive prize being $7,000. The winning piece is added to CAQ’s Permanent Collection.
In 2023, we welcomed the Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Ceramics Award sponsored by the Australian Wood Firers United
We are delighted with how the profile of the prize, and of ceramic arts, has grown since the award was established in 2015.
CAQ members receive a discount on the entry fee for Siliceous. The next Award dates will be released in our Flash newsletter.
VOLUNTEERING
There are several opportunities throughout the year to volunteer, such as for our Raku firings and the annual members’ exhibition. These will be advertised in the fortnightly Flash newsletter.
If you have some specialised skills which you would like to offer us, we would love to hear from you, please email info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
ONLINE MEMBERS’ GALLERY
We would love to feature your beautiful work in our online members’ gallery. Please forward to us some images of your work, a short bio, and social media links to info@ceramicartsqld.org.au
