The Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence 2025
The Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence is a recognition and celebration of artistic excellence and innovation in ceramics. Since its establishment in 2015, the Siliceous Award has grown in profile and now receives local, national, and international media coverage. It attracts a high standard of entries from both full-time career artists and enthusiasts from around Australia.
The Siliceous Award, and other prizes, will be judged by Dr Julie Bartholomew, an artist, educator, and writer. The winners will be announced at the Opening Night event at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane Institute of Art, 6pm, Saturday 8 March 2025.
The Main Prize is $7,000 and acquisitive, with the winning piece added to Ceramic Arts Queensland’s Permanent Collection. The Permanent Collection comprises over 200 pieces from significant Australian makers, such as Gwyn Hanssen Pigott and Milton Moon.
Two Highly Commended Awards, supported by The Australian Ceramics Association (TACA), will be presented. The prize for Highly Commended is a year’s membership to TACA and a subscription to The Journal of Australian Ceramics.
The Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Ceramics Award, presented by the Australian Wood Firers United (AWFU), is to recognise excellence in wood-fired ceramics and honour one of Australia’s most significant ceramic artists. This award is a $2,500 non-acquisitive prize.
The exhibition will continue until Tuesday 25 March 2025. All work, other than the recipient of the Siliceous Award, will be for sale.
