Tap Centering Clay Chat

Ceramic Arts Qld invites you to join us for a morning of connection and technical insight focusing on the skill of Tap-Centering.

This method of re-centering an object for turning or decorating is the fastest, surest, and most convenient way.  Being able to do it in a second, and certainly within 3, becomes the norm once your brain has been trained to do it automatically.  This is a skill like no other in ceramic practice; you cannot pick it up by just watching – it’s like learning to play the piano – you cannot do this by watching another person play.  With regular practice you train the brain to see and react subconsciously, as your fingers do on a keyboard when reading music, or touch-typing. There are tips that will help you begin (or progress) this invaluable ability, and once you realise that it’s possible for everyone to do it, you’ll gain confidence to keep at it.  An adjunct demonstration on turning without chocks of clay being needed to secure items will be included.

Hosted by Dianne Peach in her Kelvin Grove Studio – address to be advised prior to the event.
