CAQ Toolkit #5 workshop: Suvira McDonald: POSTPONED

Due to ongoing uncertainty with COVID restrictions, we have regretfully had to postpone this workshop. We hope to have it on our 2022 calendar.

Suvira McDonald is a well respected potter and teacher, and has been a visual artist for nearly 30 years. He lives and works from his studio in Northern NSW and in this two day workshop he will be sharing his considerable knowledge on throwing on the wheel and building with slabs. The throwing will be demonstration only and the slab making will be hands on.

Suvira would  like to produce a relaxed and casual atmosphere and the session will involve:

  • throwing small pots off the hump,
  • throwing a series of medium sized works,
  • rolling slabs to prepare for sculptural assemblies,
  • throwing a large pot in sections and assembling them.
  • Trimming, as weather allows, both on the wheel and by hand carving
  • Review of participants work as we progress

The format will essentially take the form of  demonstrations followed by observation and commentary on participants’ workings. With much of his thrown work he alters the forms at various stages of drying so there will be frequent exchanges and discussion intermittent throughout the time together. If time permits Suvira will present images of his works over the last 10 years or so and will have examples of some of the more recent pieces on hand to promote discussion.
