CAQ Toolkit #2 The Clay Surface

CAQ Toolkit #2 The Clay Surface with Nicci Morgan

This workshop is a chance to explore some of the infinite ways to decorate the clay surface. Surface treatment methods can be done when the clay is soft, leather hard or bone dry, it can be changed once a pot is bisque, it can be glazed and it can have decoration added after the glaze firing.

This workshop explores various decoration methods to apply to clay from the raw surface to onglaze methods. Attendees will be invited to bring along greenware to experiment on with the underglaze colours, water etching, tissue transfers, sgraffito and carving. We will play with surface treatments on leather hard clay like sprigging, stamping, inlay, applying slip and impressions with texture. Nicci will also give demonstrations on glazed pieces with decals and explain the process of applying lustre.

A full list of requirements will be provided to attendees prior to the workshop. Ceramic Arts Queensland are grateful to Redcliffe Potters for  hosting this workshop.
