Venessa Skye

I became a woodfirer because it combines everything I love about ceramics: the discipline of craft, the unpredictability of fire, and the community that gathers around the kiln. My anagama kiln is not just a tool, it’s a space where potters, students, and visitors come together. A firing takes over 100+ hours, and we stoke wood every few minuets, each shift at the kiln is part of a shared rhythm that builds bonds as much as it builds ash and flame into the clay.

The beauty of woodfired pottery lies in its unpredictability. Ash falls, flames penetrate the clay, and time records itself on the surface in ways no glaze brush could ever replicate. Every piece is a record of fire, earth, and human effort, unique, alive, and unrepeatable.

I make functional ware and am strongly inspired by the ancient pottery of Malta and the mediterranean.
