2021 $7,000 Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence

About the Siliceous Award

Ceramic Arts Queensland (CAQ) is the umbrella organisation for potters and ceramic artists in Queensland and northern NSW.  The Siliceous Award is recognition of artistic excellence in ceramics, pottery and sculpture.

CAQ is one of Australia’s oldest arts organisations.  It has a long and proud history of fostering and supporting our talented clay workers.  Over the years, many of our members have gone on to become internationally recognised artists.  CAQ holds one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of Australian ceramics acquired over many years.

In 2021 the Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence will be an acquisitive competition. It is open to CAQ members and non-members Australia wide, this year’s award comes with a $7,000 prize.

The exhibition will be hosted by the Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy, Qld with the official opening at 6pm, Friday 22 October and will run until 28 November 2021

Guest Judge is Diana Warnes, Head of Curatorial Projects, HOTA. Diana will provide feedback about the exhibition entries and announce the winner at the opening.

Official Opening of the event will be by Timothy Roberts, Timothy is an art historian; 2019 Visiting Fellow, Harry Gentle Resource Centre, Griffith University; President of Professional Historians Association (Qld) Inc; Vice President of the Royal Historical Society of Queensland; and member of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation.

The Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence encourages work of technical and artistic excellence in the ceramic arts.  Entries can be in any format, but must be at least 70% ceramic material. The artwork should explore the distinctive qualities of clay and/or glaze with forms and concepts that engage the viewer and encourage a deeper appreciation of the art of ceramics.
